On the issue of prospects for strengthening the international system for the protection of human rights in the inter-American region (on the example of the analysis of the activities of the Organization of American States)
Abstract
The subject of this study is the activities of the institutional bodies for the protection of human rights and its fundamental freedoms that operate within the framework of the Organization of American States. The article discusses issues such as how the aforementioned organization takes action to further develop and apply obligations regarding respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and how much success she has achieved in that direction, and in particular, in conducting international control over their actual compliance, as well as What are their prospects in the context of strengthening the global international system for the protection of human rights.
In order to achieve the goal and objectives, an analysis was made of the prospects for strengthening the international human rights system using the example of the Organization of American States, as an institution where activities in the area under review are more modest, but taking into account the experience of the United Nations and other regional structures developing its own regional system for the protection of human rights.
The authors conclude that the inter-American system for the protection of human rights, which is currently functioning, is structured in the legal framework of the European system for the protection of human rights. However, at the same time, it is not devoid of certain serious shortcomings in comparison with the recognized control mechanisms operating in the European region.
