International Relations and International Law Journal a peer-reviewed scholarly journal founded in 1992 and published by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Aims & Scope

The journal publishes original research and analytical reviews in political science, international relations, international law, and regional studies, including (but not limited to) the following areas:

  • international relations and foreign policy;
  • global and regional security;
  • international and national law in an international context;
  • world political processes;
  • world economy and regional integration (in connection with political processes and international relations);
  • regional studies: current issues of regions and macro-regions in the context of international processes and foreign policy.

Peer Review

All manuscripts undergo initial editorial screening and double-blind peer review by independent experts. The journal considers manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration elsewhere. Editorial decisions are based on scholarly significance, originality, methodological soundness, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

Editorial Policies and Publication Ethics

The journal adheres to the principles of academic integrity and publication ethics and applies procedures for:

  • identifying unethical borrowing (plagiarism) and other forms of publication misconduct;
  • disclosure and management of conflicts of interest;
  • handling author communications (complaints and appeals related to peer review outcomes);
  • issuing corrections and retractions where justified.

Open Access and Licensing

Articles are published in open access on the journal website and are available in full text. Publications are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license. Journal content is provided in three languages – Kazakh, Russian, and English – in accordance with the journal’s language policy.

DOI and Metadata

Each published article is assigned a DOI; registration is carried out through Crossref to ensure persistent identification, accurate citation, and long-term accessibility of publications.

Editorial Board

The editorial board includes leading scholars from Kazakhstan and international institutions, ensuring the scholarly quality of publications and alignment with the journal’s scope.

Abstracting & Indexing

The journal is available in and/or indexed by:

  • the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ);
  • the Kazakhstan Citation Database (KazBC) of JSC “National Center for State Scientific and Technical Expertise” (NCSSTE/NCGNTE);
  • the Scientific Electronic Library eLibrary.ru and the analytical database RSCI;
  • Library catalogues, including WorldCat (where an up-to-date record/identifier is available).
  • In addition, the journal has a reference profile in CiteFactor.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

For manuscripts accepted for publication, an APC is set at 60,000 KZT per article. The APC is charged after acceptance; payment does not affect the editorial decision and does not replace peer review procedures. Proof of payment (receipt in PDF or JPEG format) should be sent by the authors to the editorial office via email.
