Powers of the UN Security Council

Abstract

June 28, 2016 Kazakhstan for the first time in its history, was elected a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. In this regard, the international legal Kazakhstan science actualized issues of international peace and security, including the role and importance of the UN Security Council in this matter. One of the most important issues related to this body of international legal status is the question of the powers of the Council, particularly in its relations with other bodies. Taking this into account in the present paper made an analytical review of the major powers of the UN Security Council in its relations with all the main bodies – the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, Trusteeship Council, International Court of Justice, the UN Secretariat, as well as bodies such as the Military Staff Committee. The authors also draw attention to such an important legal instrument of the UN Security Council, as the normative resolutions that are legally binding on all states as sources of international law.
