In this article, on the basis of the analysis of the government political and military documents which define the objectives, tasks, forms and methods of use of military force and armed forces in particular, the essence of the defence policy of the Obama administration is considered. The general trend of the US military ideology is the justification of doctrine of preventive action on a global scale and finding ways to implement it. The main purpose of these documents is to adapt the US armed forces to the new realities through the improvement of the combat capabilities and institutional transformation of the armed forces, taking into account the changing nature of war, the experience of military operations in recent years and the blurred lines that separate war and peace.References
