International experience of creation of zones free of nuclear weapons

Abstract

This article examines the international experience of creation of zones free of nuclear weapons. Showing the most difficult issues in the negotiations on the establishment of zones free of nuclear weapons in Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia, South Pacific, Antarctica and their regional characteristics. Noted the historic significance of the process of creating zones free of nuclear weapons (NWFZ) in the nuclear non-proliferation and global security. As described in the international practice of registration of such areas, analyzed the processes of contract design international legal status of a NWFZ in the various regions of the world. The author concludes that the development of ideas and the creation of nuclear-free zones contributes to the strengthening of trust between States, security, compliance with non-proliferation regime.
