Abstract

In this article, an attempt has been made to analyze and reveal the regulatory purport of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms – as having a priority of a legal source in the system of the Council of Europe, the controlling (judicial) mechanism put into place thereby and their potential prospects for Kazakhstan in case it joins this reputable organization. No less special attention was paid in this work to those aspects of rights and freedoms which materially distinguish them from similar achievements in the legal protection domain, as reflected in other international treaties, for example, most notably in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as in International Human Rights Covenants and Optional Protocols.
