Transformation of gender social consciousness: the case of UN and Korea

Abstract

This article is devoted to examining the South Korean policy in transformation of mass consciousness of her people in the issues related to gender equality. It was considered main discriminatory provisions against women in the South Korean legislature stipulated by stereotypes about the role of a woman in society. This discriminatory provisions includes itself: the lack of equal rights for women in the acquisition or change of citizenship upon marriage to a foreigner, the prohibition of women for the title of head of household, the restriction of the registration divorced women in the family book. The strategy was developed by recommendations of the United Nations during 30 years period, since 1984 until 2013. The aim of the research is to analyze the policy of South Korean government in improving gender problems in Korean society.
