Abstract

The article presents a brief overview of the causes and conditions that prompted the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice: consider the problem revision of international standards for the treatment of prisoners in 2012; to request to establish an intergovernmental expert group on the issue. The article also considered the UN Secretariat instructed States to provide information on good prison practice and proposals for the formation of the new standards.The purpose ofthe article -noteKazakh scientistsand practitionerstobegin in 2011, the international processfor the revision ofthe Standard Minimum Rulesfor the Treatment of Prisoners1955whichunfortunatelyKazakhofficialshave yet to join. Actuality of the themeis to study thenew trendsin the use ofimprisonmentin the world.The author notes thatthe main reasons forraising the question ofthe revision ofthisRules ofthe UNis the need toreflect the latestchangesin the penalmethodologyand bestpractices of the penitentiary.
