Some results of the German mission in Afghanistan: Year 2014

Abstract

In 2014 it will be 13 years since the beginning of Bundeswehr mission in Afghanistan, soon it ends its
military presence as it was reported by the German Government press service on February 5th 2014, and
the German troops will withdraw this year. The four thousandGerman troops are scheduled to withdraw
by 2015, which is the third largest contingent after the USA and Great Britain. The presence of German
armed forces on Afghan territory and their participation in the peaceful resolving of the long lasting
conflict proves the ability and potential of this country in comparably new way – to act independently
and at the same time with NATO partners in a crisis region far away from the country. The Central Asian
security system in many ways depends on the further development of the situation in Afghanistan and
soon the responsibility of the region will come completely to the Central Asian states. Kazakhstan has to
develop the most appropriate foreign policy strategy in relations with Afghanistan and the states, which
are «responsible» for the geopolitics of the region.
