This article analyzes intraregional contradictions in the European Union and its impact on the organization. Deepening of the integration processes led to creation of blocks inside the union. Internal comprehensive differentiation affects the process of regionalization. The authors classified European countries by 7cultural and geographic areas, focusing on diversity (heterogeneity) of the EU. Regional imbalances and lack of unity in the domestic and foreign policy developed in the course of recent international events. In terms of political and publicinterests the EU countries could be divided into 4 groups. In this article the process of regionalization is seen as weakening the Eurocentrism and consolidation of national states. As a result, the authors concluded, that the internal differences and interregional contrast negatively affect activity of the organization, thereby preventingv emerging of the European Union as one of the world most powerful forces.
