Conceptual foundations of contemporary Russian foreign policy

Abstract

It is important to investigate the conceptual foundations of contemporary Russian foreign policy in the context of a new round of current tensions between Russia and the West. The purpose of this paper is to examine the ideological foundations of Russian foreign policy in the last decade. The author proceeds from the fact that during this period there has been a gradual change in the key ideas in the Russian foreign policy. Initial Russian ideas of rapprochement with Europe have been replaced by the ideas of a unique Russian civilization, culture, history. These new concepts were developed in the new foreign policy doctrine of Russia.
