The role of ASEAN Regional Forum in peaceful resolution of the dispute over the South China Sea: the positions of key nations

The article analyzes the ASEA N Regional Forum’s role in Asia Pacific security on the background of emerging tensions in the South China Sea and evaluates future prospects of the organization. The author analyzed main characteristics of the politics on this issue. The countries participating in the crisis resolution must play a crucial role – to mediate, and then offer a “good service”. An adequate resolution of this issue over the South China Sea can become a precedential one; this start can be useful for participating countries to develop more precise mechanisms to overcome such conflicts.The author identified a necessity for further transformation of ASEA N Regional Forum in order to resolve this problem promptly. The author gave a forecast for further activity of the Forum based on the research of the participating countries activity in the region.
