Abstract

The given article considers evolution of idea of promotion democracy in the U.S. foreign policy during Bill Clinton’s presidency. The collapse of the Soviet Union had created favorable conditions for spreading of liberal democratic principles and values in the world and engagement of more countries into the orbit of democratic development. The author reveals, that the progressive trend of supporting democracy in the U.S. policy was combined with the interference in the internal affairs of other states under the pretext of protecting human rights and democracy promotion.
